Work-Order Aging
Work-order aging groups open maintenance requests by how long they have remained unresolved.
Work-order aging is the elapsed time that an open maintenance request has remained unresolved, usually grouped into defined age bands. It is a management view of open work, not a universal promise that every request should close within one time limit.
A property team could group open requests by age, priority, property, trade and status, then investigate older items and requests waiting for planning or a vendor. IBM's Maximo guide includes average age in days for open maintenance-work categories and separate views for approval, planning and work not begun; local age bands should be documented.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does an older work order always indicate poor performance?
Not necessarily. Age should be read with priority, scope, access, parts, vendor status and holds. The measure is useful for finding exceptions and hidden queues when those factors are visible.
